I got around to chopping up another piece of 1/32″ plywood into bookmark blanks last night. Today I cut up around 7 different patterns to replenish the bookmark tray. I decided to take another shot at a piano bookmark (since I play the piano ). I ended up doing a silhouette of [...]

First Snow
November 18th, 2008 · No Comments
We had our first taste of “frozen globil warmin’” last night. Not much, but enough that they were playing bumper cars on the interstates this morning (including the police–they lost two cruisers in single-car accidents; that’s got to be a little embarrassing for them! ) The first snow in this area is always pretty [...]

Nothing at all to do with the scrollsaw…
November 4th, 2008 · 2 Comments
Just some pretty pictures outside the house. Jenny’s house has some nice sugar maples around, and although this was not a good year for color, she still had some decent trees. Here’s a couple, along with the view out her window. Enjoy!

Selma Rose

Nothing on the saw for this post; just the first of the “fancy” daylilies blooming. Selma Rose had it’s first bloom yesterday. We’ve had stellas blooming, but this the first of the “pretty” ones. Enjoy!

Kousa Blooming
May 30th, 2008 · No Comments
I noticed that the Kousa Dogwood is in bloom. It’s not as full as some others around here, but still looks decent. I still lean toward the native dogwoods, though. My Cherokee Red had some very nice blooms, and the white dogwood was covered.

First Scape!

This post has absolutely nothing to do with the scrollsaw. As folks who’ve been around me know I also collect various daylily hybrids. One important event of late spring/early summer is the First Scape. It signifies the start of daylily season, which peaks here around 4 July and can stretch into September. I didn’t get [...]

A Flower Plate
May 11th, 2008 · 1 Comment
Something totally unrelated to scrollsawing this morning: Jenny got some plates and glasses at the local Goodwill, and put together this arrangement from flowers in the front garden. There’s hiding amongst there some red dogwoods, encore azaleas, and saucer magnolia flowers.

There’s a pair of these carousing around the back yard. One came up to the door for a look-see. Here he is, hiding behind the cat nose-prints in the window

Blizzard of 2008
March 7th, 2008 · No Comments
They just upgraded the winter storm warning to a blizzard warning here. We got the afternoon off, so I made it back to the house before it got really bad. They’re claiming it will end up 12-15″ with drifts up to 4′ with 40mph winds. We’ll see. I don’t have to go [...]

Snow in Bogue Chitto
January 19th, 2008 · 3 Comments
The tree farm and barn for Tuliptree Crafts is located in Bogue Chitto, which is deep in southwest Mississippi. Snow comes here every once in a while, and today we had about 1/2″ fall. Below is a picture of the front of the barn from this morning.
