Getting ready for the Potato Festival

October 2nd, 2008 · No Comments

Today I’ve been rushing around getting things finished for the Potato Festival in Spring Valley this weekend (4-5 Oct 08). Unfortunately, we had to take a cat to the vet which took up most of the day.  Here’s some pictures of the new pieces for the show:

Butterfly Magnets

Butterfly Magnets

There’s around 30 bugs here.  I’m trying that E6000 glue on the magnets for this batch.  I’m hoping it holds well while being quicker to apply. One issue is that it globs on, and is a little messy.  It also has some rather bad vapours, so it may be an outside-job only.  By the way, the paper cutter in the background is what I use to cut the plywood for the bookmarks.

Butterfly Barretts

Butterfly Barrettes

A new item this show will be these hair barrettes using the butterflies.  I used the E6000 glue to attach the butterflies to some barrette clips. Jenny has been wearing one today, and we’ve had some positive feedback from folks we’ve asked. I’ll price them the same as the magnets and the pot ornaments.

Animal Puzzles

Animal Puzzles

Of course, we need animal puzzles.  If you look at the front we have the skunk that several folks have asked for.  I’m not sure if they’ll be at Spring Valley, but if so, I have them :-) ! I still need to bag the animals, and re-do the inventories and the price boards.  The Horse/Chihuahua/Skunk have been oiled since this picture.

Heart Split Woven Box

Heart Split Woven Box

This is the last thing I made tonight.  This is the same heart box that I made for Jenny at the retirement. I’ll oil it in the morning, after the glue dries.  It takes about an hour on the scrollsaw, along with 2-1/4 bdft of sassafras.  I’ll be pricing it in the mid-to-upper 20’s;  The smaller heart boxes (that are not split-ring) will be in the $15-$20 range.

Tomorrow I’ll be re-doing inventories, re-packing the trailer, and setting up in Spring Valley in the evening.
