Last night I drew up a simple dragonfly magnet pattern. The idea is based on the butterfly magnets I’ve been doing: 1/8″ wings glued at a 30 degree angle to a 1/4″ body with a rare-earth magnet on the bottom. Using coreldraw I drew up a pattern for the wings and body based on pictures of several dragonflies. Below is the prototype, cut from 1/8″ sassafras and 1/4″ walnut scrap. Each wing is about 3-1/2″ wide.
It is rather delicate, so I’ll thinking of making the wing ribs wider (I used 6pt lines; 8 pt is too wide, so I’ll try 7 pt next). I have removed it from steel plate several time, so although delicate, it should hold up to normal use.
If there is interest, I may put the pattern on this site.

That is pretty. May be you can make a bumble bee?

I like the pattern, and would be interested in a copy if you make it available.

that is adorable, if you do make the pattern available I would really like a copy as my daughter loves dragonflies and I would like to surprise her with one. Thank you….Mike

Mike, the pattern is available–look on the left under “Patterns from Tuliptree Crafts”; There’s a link to the .pdf file for the dragonfly. I hope she likes it!
