In this day and age, you always have to be careful about what you put out on the internet. Just so you are fully informed, this is what happens when you visit Scrollsawblog.com.
- I use Google Adsense. They attempt to place ads that have content relevent to what’s being seen. They use cookies to control the content. I have no control over, nor insight into these cookies. You can clear these cookies out in your browser, or prevent them from being used with any of several programs. Adblock works well in Firefox. Details can be found over at www.google.com —look up “Adsense”.
- Similarly, this website uses wordpress software to run the blog. This software also uses cookies. I theoretically, by examining the Wordpress code could probably figure out what they do; however, i don’t have the time to do that. Details can be found at www.wordpress.org.
- Like all web servers, my server collects information on “who” is visiting the site. Note the “who” is simply an IP address. It in itself does not give me any idea who “who” actually is. I monitor the logs looking for suspicious activity–such as “get” messages (look up the http protocol if you’re curious–and if you’re into reading boring protocol specs!) that access files they shouldn’t. This is a symptom of potential spammers inserting spam into the blog. Note this is the reason comments are moderated–so I can intercept any spam before anyone can see it.
That’s pretty much it. If you have any questions, please use the “contact me” form!
