The scrollsaw did get some work today. I made a pair of “Balacia” trays; one out of yellowheart/lacewood, the other cypress. I plan on putting malachite or lapis lazuli chips in the yellowheart version; haven’t decided about the cypress.
On the side is the cherry “Evealle” beaded woven box. It’s finished; I did the final sanding [...]

Ugh! I was trying to thread the beads in the cherry woven box tonight. And they would not go. I wanted to put green aventurine 6mm round beads in, but I couldn’t get them to go on the pin. I finally gave up and went with some different beads–faceted crystal and orange-dyed quartz rounds. The [...]

I completed the walnut box this morning–just needed to glue the lip to the weave. Tonight I also mixed a batch of oil and applied it to the cherry/lacewood and the water oak version. Here are the some pictures.
The first is applying the oil. The JERSEY puzzles are looking on, not sure if they want [...]

I’ve added the pattern to the beaded-woven box that has shown up here recently. It’s a simple one-page pattern, but I thought I’d throw it up in case someone is interested in how these are made. Since I don’t have a picture of the finished box yet, the picture shown is of the box without [...]

As I mentioned before, I made some revisions to the pattern for the woven-beaded box (for lack of a better name ). The first attempt at the new pattern went pretty well, except I got the end pieces mis-aligned. The first picture is of that attempt. It’s made from cherry, with the top cut [...]

Nope, not the expensive stuff that comes out of the ground, the BLO. I finished up the three ELK puzzles and dipped them in the BLO. I also sanded the beaded woven box and dunked it in the oil. The rest of the night was spent packing. Tomorrow I plan on loading the trailer as [...]

Jenny and I helped out with Vacation Bible School tonight, so I didn’t get much time. I did cut out a pair of Elk Puzzles, and dry-fitted some beads in the woven box. The box still needs oiling before I put the beads in for good, but you can get an idea what it’s going [...]

*UNTESTED*
Moving away from the trays, I decided to design a woven box with beads. (This was another suggestion from Jenny.) Like I mentioned in a previous post, one of the big problems with the layered woven boxes is the wood-waste. So I designed this one so that all the parts fit in 3 layers of 2-1/2″ [...]
