A belated sale

March 12th, 2010 · No Comments

Tip:  Don’t lose the contact info on an order! I had a former co-worker order a pair of Boxer boxes at the Popcorn Festival back in Sep 2009.  I know the guy, but being horrible with names, forgot his name. The email address (basically his name) I did right down, but lost the paper.  So, [...]

Load of Wood

February 21st, 2010 · No Comments

Here is the load of wood I purchased at Willis Lumber on Friday.  My sassafras stash was stating to get down.  There should have been enough to get me into summer, but they had a sale on sassafras @ $1.50/bdft.  They also had cherry at the same price.  The boards where shorter in length (6-7′ [...]

2nd Cherry Galena Clock

December 11th, 2009 · No Comments

Today I put together the twin to the previous Galena clock featured below. Same wood, actually the same board. This one went together much quicker than the other one–after all, I did spend a lot of time yesterday just figuring out the order to glue the pieces together!
Figure about 30 minutes to put this one [...]

Galena Clock Pricing

December 11th, 2009 · No Comments

More boring business info here .
I had someone ask how much I sold the Galena clock for. I had an old web page up that listed it for $45, so that’s the price I charged.  I hate bait-and-switch tactics, so I didn’t feel it was ethical to charge the current price ($59.75) for it.  [...]

Takin’ Orders

November 29th, 2009 · No Comments

I left the “Store” option  set to on for the eCommerce site of Tuliptree, and I got my first order tonight.  To be honest, I intended to return it to “Showcase”–that way it shows the items but doesn’t try to take orders itself.  I’m relatively confident about the shipping, but I haven’t touched the sales [...]

Updating the Store

November 27th, 2009 · No Comments

I’ve been updating the eCommerce site tonight.  Adding more items, updating some prices, and making the shipping module more realistic.  I now also automatically get emails when someone shops there–instead of checking the email logs and seeing if anythings happened.  The goal is to actually start taking orders from the web site. Payment will still [...]

Replacements and Tables

November 24th, 2009 · No Comments

One of the orders I shipped ended up with a broken tail in the mail.  I told the person, just keep the puzzle and I’ll ship a replacement. Oh, and here’s how you can fix the broken one.  This costs me a little money, mostly postage and time, but I want to earn a good [...]

Thoughts on a Craft Show as a Business

August 22nd, 2009 · 3 Comments

I had someone ask about my ideas about doing a first show as a business. I’m not an expert in this, but have done a few shows over the last few years—and dealt with the paperwork afterwards. Here are some thoughts off the top of my head. Disclaimer (with apologies to Dr [...]

Tuliptree Crafts ™

July 20th, 2009 · No Comments

In the last post you may have seen a green smudge up next to the “Tuliptree Crafts”.  That’s actually a “tm”, for trademark.  According to my lawyer that is a good way to protect myself and keep somebody from stealing the name out from under me.  You can spend a couple of thousand dollars and [...]

Doing business in Indiana

June 2nd, 2009 · No Comments

We talked with the lawyer this week, and he’s going to get us set up to do business in Indiana. Not too much trouble: Tuliptree Crafts LLC will get registered in Indiana as a foreign company, we’ll get a BT-1 certificate, and then we’re good to go. The downside is we have to renew the [...]
