We’ll be at Milford High School for a one-day show tomorrow. This is supposed to be a decent show, but with the way shows have been running for most folks all year I’m really not expecting too much. Add to the economy a lack of inventory and some just-lousy weather, my expectations are low.
We’ll see [...]

Wheels are great!
September 6th, 2009 · No Comments
Today at the Kettering show I found out how nice it is to have wheels on the tables. I started with a 10×10 space. For lack of any better inspiration I set up as a “U”: 2 tables on the left, 2 on the right. Unfortunately, the way the dog crates have the puzzles angled.you [...]

Kettering Holiday At Home, Day #1
September 6th, 2009 · No Comments
This day falls into the “can’t complain” category. Would have liked to have sold more (you always do), but we did decent I think. Traffic was steady, if light; we had a sale right as things opened up for the day, and one while we were battening everything down for the night.
Other folks I talked [...]

Kettering Holiday at Home
September 4th, 2009 · No Comments
I’ve repacked the trailer, except for the plastic crates. By moving some stuff around, such as the spare tires, shelves and other things, I’ve opened up the trailer quite a bit. Pumping up the tires on the tables also makes them much easier to move. After packing the rest of the animal puzzles in the [...]

Filling up the Fall Schedule
August 31st, 2009 · 3 Comments
After we got Jenny’s term paper sent off (2 hours to spare!), we left early this morning to get her to work on time. Needless to say, when I finally got to the house I pretty much crashed and burned. I did get a couple puzzles cut, some bookmarks blanked-up and cut, and the bases [...]

Thoughts on a Craft Show as a Business
August 22nd, 2009 · 3 Comments
I had someone ask about my ideas about doing a first show as a business. I’m not an expert in this, but have done a few shows over the last few years—and dealt with the paperwork afterwards. Here are some thoughts off the top of my head. Disclaimer (with apologies to Dr [...]

Xenia Arts and Rails Festival 2009, Pictures
August 22nd, 2009 · 3 Comments
Here are a few booth pictures from todays show.
Here is an overall show of the space. We were supposed to have a 10′ x 20′ space–there was a mix-up in the layout (18 spaces on our side of the street, but only 17 were marked off. Oops), but we were able to get a decent [...]

Xenia Arts and Rail Festival results
August 22nd, 2009 · No Comments
This was a small, one-day show in a (for Ohio) small city. The local economy here is not great, but not as bad as Wilmington (the pottery/art show a few weeks ago). Despite the way craft shows have been going, we didn’t do too bad. A little less than last year, but not significantly.
What sold [...]

Xenia Rail Festival
August 21st, 2009 · No Comments
It’s tomorrow. Unfortunately, 40% chance of rain starting the same time as the festival is also tomorrow. Not supposed to be much, but that will still dampen the crowd.
Right now I’m re-printing the catalog with the updated puzzles. I need to add sections on the butterflies and other things, but probably not tonight.
We’ll see what [...]

Filling up the Schedule
February 24th, 2009 · 1 Comment
I’ve been updating the web sites today. Something that doesn’t take too much energy while recovering from a bug, and it needs to take place before too many people start hitting it from a business card (I’m thinking a lot about the St Louis dog show this upcoming weekend). I updated the prices, and added [...]
