Here is another picture of the same clock, this time after the dip in the BLO and with the movement and pendulum attached. It still needs to cure, but should be ready for the show on Sunday (2 Mar 08).

Final Deer Pendulum Clock
February 26th, 2008 · 3 Comments
Last night I cut the back for the third Deer Pendulum Clock, and today I put it all together. It still needs to take a swim in the BLO, but here it is in it’s raw form. Actually, it’s too big to dunk in the BLO, so I use a soaked paper towel and squish [...]

Panels Walnut & Mahogany
February 25th, 2008 · No Comments
Today I was a little under the weather, so not much got done initially. I did glue up a mahogany panel for another set of Hummingbird-Trellis Clock, and the third back to the Deer Pendulum Clock. The panels are shown below. The pattern on the walnut panel was just cut out, except for [...]

Second Deer-Pendulum Clock
February 24th, 2008 · No Comments
I decided to clean up a little, and having the parts cut out, I decided to go ahead and put it together. Just a little sanding needed… Well, first, the sandpaper on the drum sander needed replacing–no big deal there. Next I needed to reconnect the dust collection hose. See previous post [...]

The Lights
February 19th, 2008 · 1 Comment
I went and got another 3 lights and put them in the track. Then I placed the shelves and the supports just to get an idea how they will light things up. The first picture is the entire table, with the cat-and-mouse and deer pendulum clocks hanging and animal puzzles on the shelves. [...]

Deer Pendulum Clock–Assembled
February 18th, 2008 · 1 Comment
Here is the first of the Deer Pendulum Clock assembled and hanging on the wall. The colors in the picture aren’t the best, but you can get an idea of what it will finally look like. The pendulum has bee soaked in the BLO, but the rest was raw sassafras. I’ve since wiped the rest [...]

Finally, some butterflies
February 17th, 2008 · No Comments
When I was making the plates a few weeks back, I saved the centers of the rings and cut butterfly wings out of them. I’ve been collecting several sets of wings, kept together by rubber bands. (I wanted to keep the stacks together, as they would have common characteristics.) I’ve been collecting the edges from [...]

Veining
February 8th, 2008 · No Comments
I had a person ask in what order do I do veining: all at once, or by section. The short answer, like too many in life is “it depends”. Actually, the order I cut is mostly dependent on the fragility of the piece. If the veining is not too complex, I’ll tend [...]

Making Sanding Dust
February 6th, 2008 · No Comments
Errands (like spending $100+ at the food store) took precedence tonight, but I did get several pieces through the drum sander this evening. This includes the English Armies Clock front/back and the Deer Pendulum clock front. I did get a “Springer” animal puzzle cutout, and ran that through the sander as well. [...]

Deer Pendulum Clock face complete
February 5th, 2008 · 2 Comments
Although all the fretwork on this clock piece was finished yesterday, I didn’t cut it out until this afternoon. It looked harder than it really was; the main problem was turning a 11″x14″ piece of sassafras around without sticking it in your stomach! I still need to do the back (should be easy) and [...]
