Hummingbird Trellis Clock

February 24th, 2010 · No Comments

I was able to prop up the clock and get a few pictures for the website. Here is the clock:
The clock is solid cherry, with a printed dial. I have done some with a maple face and walnut trellis; the pendulum would have the hummingbird and flower in maple, with the rest in walnut.
Here is [...]

Hummingbird Clocks

February 23rd, 2010 · No Comments

I did get one of the hummingbird clocks finished today, and the other is only lacking a movement. Like the Cat-Mouse clocks I used a printed dial for these.  One is the “fancy Arabic with Ivy” dial, the other is a fancy Arabic with a hummingbird illustration. Both are made from the cherry I purchased [...]

Hummingbird Clock Blank

February 21st, 2010 · No Comments

Today was a hummingbird day.  I took some of the cherry just purchased and cut out parts for a pair of Hummingbird Clocks.  They still need assembly, but the hard part (3-1/4 hours of cutting time) is done. Most of the parts are currently curing from an oil bath, the spacers need sanding, glue the [...]

One Hummer down, One to go

April 6th, 2008 · 1 Comment

At least of the mahogany ones–I still has a sassafras face part that needs a walnut trellis.  Anyway, I got the pendulums cut out this morning before church, and afterwards I put everything together.  One of the clocks has been BLO dipped and is waiting to cure; the other still needs a bath.
The drum sander [...]

Hummingbird Trellis

April 5th, 2008 · No Comments

I did get the trellis cut out for the Hummingbird Trellis clock this morning. I did something a little different this time. If you remember, I had two patterns of the trellis on one blank. The mahogany cuts very easily, too easily for 1/2″ thick blanks. So, after I cut out the outlines [...]

Back on the saw

April 2nd, 2008 · No Comments

Well, almost! After today’s AutoCAD session, I went and cut up some mahogany for the Hummingbird Trellis clocks.  Sometimes you get lucky, and tonight was one of those times. I had originally cut out and glued up two blank panels, one for each of the mahogany clocks. While putting the pattern on the first, I [...]

The Hummingbird Faces

March 17th, 2008 · No Comments

I finished cutting out the faces of the Hummingbird Trellis clock I mentioned yesterday.  Thankfully, once the pieces are cut out, separated and the pattern removed, they flatten out nicely.  A few passes through the drum sander and they’re finished.
The ones on the left are mahogany, the one on the top right is sassafras. The [...]

Hummingbirds Three

March 16th, 2008 · No Comments

I haven’t been doing much serious cutting the last week (see previous posts), but I have been nibbling at the Hummingbird Clock faces.  One recurring problem I’ve been having is the glued-panels warping on me.  They’ll warp one way, and when you turn them over, they warp the other.  What’s happening is that moisture is [...]

Panels Walnut & Mahogany

February 25th, 2008 · No Comments

Today I was a little under the weather, so not much got done initially. I did glue up a mahogany panel for another set of Hummingbird-Trellis Clock, and the third back to the Deer Pendulum Clock. The panels are shown below. The pattern on the walnut panel was just cut out, except for [...]

Cat and Mouse Clock

January 26th, 2008 · 1 Comment

Today was a busy day, with the postponed Christmas party at the local scrollsaw club and a trip to “Herbs and Lace” to drop off the Hummingbird/Trellis Clock. In the midst I was able to cut out 3 Cat-and-Mouse Clocks out of rift-sawn red oak. All the fretwork is finished; the only things left [...]
